Things to know about Landscaping

NOTE: This guide DOES NOT cover all topics and is a reference only. We encourage you to seek professional recommendations and advice for topics that are not covered here.

Here are some helpful Do’s & Don’ts to help you with your landscaping!

Landscaping Do’s

  • DO hire a professional landscaping contractor with a proven track record for any landscape installation or landscape maintenance work.
  • DO properly blow-out and winterize your irrigation system using a professional landscaping contractor with a proven track record.
  • DO properly start up and program your irrigation system using a professional landscaping contractor with a proven track record.
  • DO check your irrigation heads and drip heads when you turn on your irrigation in the spring to make sure they are working properly.
  • DO ensure that an appropriate watering schedule is programmed on your clock following the manufacturer’s instructions provided.
  • DO make sure that the water is turned off at the irrigation riser, located outside, AND the mechanical room, before freezing temperatures occur.
  • DO properly drain your irrigation at the interior and exterior (located at the irrigation riser and in the mechanical room) by loosening the screws to drain any water.
  • DO properly fertilize and prune any plants and trees along with maintaining the sod.
  • DO make sure to perform winter watering as needed.

Landscaping Don’ts

  • DO NOT leave the hose attached to the spigot.
  • DO NOT leave any garden hose attached to the outdoor spigot in freeing temperatures.
  • DO NOT leave your irrigation system on in freezing temperatures.
  • DO NOTlet your landscaping contractor change any grading or drainage.
  • DO NOT disregard all the landscaping DO’s and DON’Ts above.
